An app called Fogo Cruzado tracks the deaths the government won’t. It alerts people to shootings, sending out push notifications so that people can avoid a potentially deadly area. It also tracks which groups are committing the murders.
Cecilia Oliveira, a journalist and specialist in public security and drug policy, created what is now the biggest shoot-out database in Latin America, which aims to hold Brazil’s government to account.
