In a way, we might say this sanctions want to be the last nail on an authoritarian regime’s coffin.
Unlike other countries in the region, the Islamic Republic of Iran has a democratic, liberal and secular opposition. So it is not that crazy to imagine a democratic transition.
Nonetheless, it also makes sense to think that Ayatolah Khamenei’s rule is more solid that what we think. First, he counts with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard: short of a parallel elite corp with an economic structure that makes them 100% sustainable, despite the sanctions.
Second, he has China’s investments.
So… can Iran keep their authoritarian rule even with Trump’s sanctions? We will answer to this question on this video.
