After the Conservative landslide victory at the 2019 United Kingdom election, it seems clear that Boris Johnson will get his Brexit plan done. The question is… what happens after that? Johnson dreams of turning UK into a Singapore on Thames: a free market paradise. But, in order to do that, he will have to make lots of free market deals with other countries… and that takes time.

What would happen in the meantime? Shall the UK become isolated on the international scene while London tries to negotiate those free market agreements? How can they avoid lots of tariffs? There is a solution for this: supercharged free ports. Supercharged free ports are free market islands in the middle of the country, with no taxes and no tariffs. If done properly, these special economic zones could boost the economy on the poorest areas of the country like Northern England.

Business associations are enthusiastic about this, so do the local politicians—including some labour MPs—and, definitely, Johnson himself.

But is this as good as it seems? If it was such a good idea… why didn’t they do it before? Do they really need Brexit to create those supercharged free ports? On this video we will answer to all of these questions.
