If I mention a European island divided into two, which is a former British colony, where you drive on the left and whose economy has grown substantially in recent years, what country would you think of?

Surely many would answer Ireland, right? In this case it’s not the land of Guinness, but the island of Cyprus.

This isn’t a well-known story, but Cyprus has two separate states: The Republic of Cyprus and the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a state that is not officially recognized as a sovereign country by any country except Turkey.

Now, how did this small Mediterranean island become divided? What about the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus? We’ll tell you all about it in this video.
