The Sahel is the strip of land that separates the Sahara desert and the great African savannahs. It is one of the poorest areas in the world... and the perfect breeding ground for radical groups. In a short time, the Sahel has become an international security hotspot.
And there is no country more interested in the security of the Sahel than France. For decades, France has kept all its former colonies under control. That includes almost all the countries in this region. And all this explains why the French army has sent so many troops to protect the Sahel.
The question is: Is France really pacifying the Sahel and why is this region so important for France and for Europe? In this video we tell you.
