Russia tries to hide the Ukrainian war from its own citizens. Even using the word "war" in a news report is a crime punishable by 15 years in prison in Russia. So says the new press law they passed in early March 2022. Instead of "war", Russian journalists have to use the term "special operations".
Of course, the Russian narrative is that Russia is in Ukraine fighting Nazis who have supposedly taken over some regions of the country. At the same time, Russian propaganda is extremely nationalistic and glorifies the achievements of its army.
