8:54Now PlayingRhode Island Special Assistant Attorney General Devin Hogan Flanagan has been placed on six months of unpaid leave after a viral video showed her berating Newport police during an arrest outside the Clark Cooke House restaurant. Flanagan, 34, was charged with willful trespass after refusing to leave the premises when asked, while her companion Veronica Hannon, 34, was charged with trespass, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. In the footage, Flanagan repeatedly identified herself as an attorney general and incorrectly claimed officers were required to turn off their body cameras. Attorney General Peter Neronha said the incident “embarrassed” his office, adding that the conduct violated public trust. The video, which has been viewed by an estimated 100 million people worldwide, has intensified scrutiny of accountability within the attorney general’s office, which previously faced controversy after another prosecutor resigned following a DUI arrest but was later rehired with a pay increase.
