18:05Now PlayingOne of the great tragedies of the Great War was the destruction of the Pals Battalions at the Somme on July 1, 1916. These units were made up of men from the same town, street, workplace, or sports organization who enlisted together, trained together, fought together, and died together. None suffered more than the Accrington Pals, in whose steps I'm walking today on the Somme Battlefield near the village of Serre in Northeastern France.
