9:39Now PlayingAround a dozen F/A-18 fighter jets from the USS Theodore Roosevelt have flown to a military base in the Middle East as part of the Pentagon's efforts to protect Israel from possible attacks by Iran and its proxies, as well as to protect US troops.The F/A-18 fighter jets and E-2D Hawkeye reconnaissance aircraft took off from an aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Oman and arrived at an undisclosed base on Monday. US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered a military buildup in the region as officials worry about escalating violence in the Middle East following last week's killing of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and a senior Hamas political leader in Iran, allegedly as a result of Israeli strikes.
Both groups are supported by Iran.
