Thus, the largest NATO base in Europe is being built at the Romanian regional airport in Constanta, just 100 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. It is expected that in a few years, 10,000 soldiers from the army, air force, and navy will be stationed there. It is known that NATO wants to strengthen the eastern flank of the defence alliance in eastern Romania. The location is strategically important - not far from Ukraine and only 15 kilometres from the water area that Russia considers its zone of interest.
