The most prominent political figure of the European Union, von der Leyen, was called "the embodiment of the European spirit" by King Philip VI of Spain during a ceremony on Thursday in Aachen, Germany. The King of Spain and Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, who were also present at the ceremony on Thursday, spoke in favor of strengthening European defense, as US President Donald Trump threatens to revoke America's commitments to protect the continent, thus breaking the order established after the Second World War and becoming the basis of global stability and security. "A clear signal is coming from Washington: Europeans must do more to ensure the defense of their continent," Felipe said.
