KJV Words You Don't Know You Don't Know

Authorized Ch 3 • Because English has changed over the centuries, the Elizabethan English of the KJV contains dead words—words we know we don't know, like "besom," "chambering," and "emerod." It also contains false friends—words we don't know we don't know, like "halt," "remove," and "commendeth."

We can ask people to look up dead words, though I'm not sure why they should have to when commonly known contemporary equivalents are available. Can't "besom" be "broom," "chambering" be "immorality," "emerod" become "tumor"?

But how are KJV readers supposed to look up false friends when they don't even know they are misunderstanding them? And will they even be in the dictionary on your shelf or your smartphone?

Dead words and false friends are *not the KJV translastors' fault.* And they're not our fault, either. They are no one's fault—they are the "fault" of language change.
