2:43Now PlayingDogwalkers raised money to restore the Historic Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C. in the 1990s after the grounds fell into disrepair. The cemetery is among the many free things to do in D.C., but it is in the more secluded neighborhood of Capitol Hill. Visitors can spend hours strolling the grounds, reading headstones and learning about the history of the cemetery. Former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, military band leader John Philip Sousa and D.C.’s “Mayor for Life” Marion Barry are all buried here. The cemetery once served as a park in the Victorian Era, and now locals come to walk their dogs, race a 5K or attend a movie night. Read more in our city guide
