Mississippi, in arguing this case, has asked the court to overrule both Roe v. Wade and the 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey that keep states from banning abortion before viability, the stage in a pregnancy when a fetus can survive outside the womb, which happens around 24 weeks.
