A group of Magellanic penguins returned to the ocean off the coast of Brazil on Dec. 5, after being rescued during a difficult seasonal migration from Patagonia to Santa Catarina. Each year, many penguins become stranded during the arduous journey.

Some rescued penguins' return migrations will now be tracked using satellite transmitters as part of the Magellanic Penguin Monitoring Project.
