Because nausea and constipation are common side effects of GLP-1s (the class of drug that includes Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound, among others), some people think that they aren’t beneficial for your gut in general.

But the opposite may be true, says Dr. Trisha Pasricha, a physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and The Washington Post’s Ask a Doctor columnist.

Studies suggest GLP-1s help fatty liver disease and may possibly reduce the risk of stomach ulcers and maybe even colorectal cancer too.
