Dementia is taking his memory. He puts it onstage.

Samuel A. Simon, a former public interest lawyer who worked with Ralph Nader, performs a one-man play to help himself and others come to terms with Alzheimer’s disease.

Diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s in 2022, Simon has turned his experience into “Dementia Man, An Existential Journey,” which he performs publicly as a way to hold on to a sense of self.

Beyond the stage, his days are shaped by medical appointments, volunteering at his synagogue, advocacy work in Northern Virginia, and the small conversations he and his wife, Susan, return to as they try to stay ahead of what’s changing.
