These scientists are burning down houses for a good cause

Scientists are conducting controlled burn experiments on test houses to determine what building materials will best protect homes from wildfires. Research in this area has already had an impact on California's fire codes.

"Mitigation actions really can reduce the risk to wildfires," explained Murray Morrison, managing director of research at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety.
