Chairman of the FCC Ajit Pai has indicated that the FCC will rescind most of the 2015 Open Internet Order establishing Net Neutrality protections. Many internet users, websites, and politicians--as well as John Oliver--have decried this as paving the way for exploitative ISPs to institute throttling and "fast lanes" that could require websites or users to pay more to access websites at full speed. On the other hand, Net Neutrality opponents say there was very little evidence of this behavior before the 2015 ruling, that regulation compliance hurts smaller ISPs and reduces the amount of investment in infrastructure, and that repealing net neutrality could offer customers more choice in internet packages, like when wireless providers offer unlimited access to Netflix or other services as an incentive.
