We discussed his paper, "Free Republic Like Our Own: The United States Navy and the Colonization Movement in the Public Discourse, 1819-1860.
During our discussion we discussed the American Colonization Society, the role of the US Navy and several key officers - such as Matthew Fontaine Maury and Matthew Perry - and the establishment of the different colonial entities along the West African coast.
