What the Ship? Top 5 Maritime Stories for March 22, 2022

What's Going on With Shipping

On this episode, Sal Mercogliano - former merchant mariner and maritime historian at Campbell University - discusses the Top 5 Maritime Stories on March 22, 2022. The first story deals with the salvage of the grounded containership MV Ever Forward outside of the port of Balitmore and the efforts and difficulties in freeing the vessel. Second story discusses the continued and looming food and shipping impact due to the Ukraine-Russia War. Third, we examine the impact of the supply-chain crisis in the US, particularly at the ports and ocean shipping. Next, the new memorandum of understanding between the Federal Maritime Commission and the Department of Justice has resulted in the first subponeas to one of the nine large containership carriers. Fifth, we discuss the recent funding for the Tanker and Cable Ship security programs. Finally, Sal takes a moment to thank all his subscribers and viewers for the past year.

Also, a special thanks to Marine Traffic for providing the graphics used in the Ever Forward story.
