In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - former merchant mariner and maritime historian - examines the expiration of the contract between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association and its implication. With the the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles be ranked the least efficient in the world, how will the union and the ports deal with the issue of Automation. In addition, we examine the state of congestion in the ports on the West Coast and the prognosis for a resolution by the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, Gene Seroka, along with the history of the 1934 Bloody Thursday Strike.
