In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - former merchant mariner and maritime historian at Campbell University - discusses the top 5 Maritime stories as of August 3, 2022. First, containership companies once again post record profits for the 2Q2022. Second, the sailing of the first of the trapped grain ships from Ukraine may mark the resumption of the grain trade to the port of Odesa, but there are many challenges yet to be faced. Third, Hawaii received its last shipment of coal for energy production, but now it faces potential shortages in oil and other means of power. Fourth, Pasha Hawaii received its new containership - MV George III - from Keppel AmFELS and it is fueled completely by Liquified Natural Gas. Fifth, RIMPAC 2022 concluded, but the unheralded supporters of the operation were two commercial tankers.
