In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - maritime historian at Campbell University (@campbelledu) and former merchant mariner - discusses the Top 5 Maritime News Stories as of March 4, 2023. First, we discuss the container sector and issues with dropping volumes and rates. Second, we look at the LNG sector, in particular US exports. Third, an examination of the dry bulk sector including the loss of of a Chinese dry bulker off the coast of Russia due to ice damage. Fourth, the crude sector and the use of VLCC carriers in a shuttle role. Finally, India is banning oil tankers and bulkers older than 25 years.
