The press conference was held by the law firm of Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman and environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in support of the State of California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), which was named in a lawsuit by agricultural giant Monsanto.
Monsanto filed a lawsuit against OEHHA in 2016 after California issued a notice of intent to list glyphosate as a chemical “known to the state cause cancer” in accordance with Proposition 65. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup.
In the first of four videos of the press conference, Michael Baum, managing partner of Baum Hedlund, discusses the science linking Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer to cancer, specifically non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and introduces John Barton, a third generation Bakersfield farmer.
Barton was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after using Roundup on his farm for many years, believing it to be safe. He is one of many farmers to file a Roundup cancer lawsuit against Monsanto, alleging the company buried the link between Roundup and cancer.
