West Texas was free range Aoudad. I have so much respect for these animals after chasing them around the Davis mountains. They live is some nasty rugged country.
After multiple failed stalks, we finally glassed up a few rams in a really good spot with the right wind.
We took our time and moved really slow, got in really tight on them and one of the rams got curious. So he popped out at 40 yards. So I let one fly! Perfectly placed arrow, watched this ram go lay down in some brush.
After 30 minutes and no movement I was confident he was done.
I was wrong! I walked up on him and he jumped up and headed into some nasty boulders and cliffs.
We watched him until just before last light so I decided to make a move and try to get one more in him. It worked, he gave me a 30 yard hard quartered away shot. I tucked that arrow just behind his back rib and it exited through the front of him. He ran down into a nasty deep canyon and I watched him lay down as the sun went down.
These rams are as tough as they get. Because both shots were good vital shots.
This was an incredible hunt and if you are interested in hunting sheep without paying the expensive sheep costs.
