The saying goes that diamonds are forever, and indeed, the most precious of gemstones is indeed an item of extreme natural beauty when cut, polished and set into exquisite pieces by fine jewelers, yet, the industry is one that is dominated by the monopolization of its extraction and production.

The two largest diamond producers in the world, the Anglo-American DeBeers and the Russian Alrosa companies enjoy a global market share of over 60%, with Debeers alone once controlling around 85% of the global diamond markets.
