4:52Now PlayingWhile many believe that Black Sunnis only came out of a post Nation of Islam conversion, Black Sunni communities existed well before. Through the early 20th century, Sh Daoud Faisal led the Muslim Mission and the Bronx Mosque. Jazz Musicians began to embrace Islam, the Darul Islam movement took root, and the beginnings of Wali Akram and Imam Jamil Al Amin found life on these shores.
Series Description: Two worlds that were and still are so frequently intertwined, are Islam and Black America. Yet often these two are looked at as either mutually exclusive, or limited to one historical period or transformative personality. In this series, Sr. Ieasha Prime gives a brief overview of the many ways in which these worlds interacted, and the many figures we owe that interaction to.
