On Easter Sunday, President Trump ended a threat against Iran with "Praise Be to Allah."

Some people laughed. But the phrase belongs to real people, and it means something.

"Praise Be to Allah" is how Arabic speakers — Muslim and Christian — express gratitude to God. It's the Arabic equivalent of saying "Praise the Lord." Arab Christians have used the word Allah to refer to God for over a thousand years. It's in their Bibles. It's in their churches. It always has been.

Using it as a punchline on the holiest morning of the Christian calendar says less about Islam than it does about how little we know about it.
