We live in an age where outrage has become currency and fear is the ultimate drug. Americans avoid the UK for fear of stabbings, Brits won’t step foot in the US because of mass shootings, and the media gleefully fuels it all because fear sells. Normalcy never goes viral, but tragedy does. Social media magnifies rare horrors into perceived epidemics, convincing us the world is burning when in reality, most people are living better lives today than ever before. The uncomfortable truth is this: the negativity isn’t just the media’s fault, it’s ours. We click it, share it, and demand more of it. Until we admit that fear is entertainment and outrage is addictive, we’ll keep mistaking isolated chaos for everyday reality.
