Summary
As men, we all wear a variety of masks in different situations. Sometimes, we wear the mask of Affluence, hiding behind wealth, money and material things. Sometimes it’s the mask of Happiness, pretending everything is great, when in fact you are breaking inside. At times, we don the mask of Intelligence, posing like we know it all, concealing our true selves behind rationalizations, quotes, and calm intellectualism. Sometimes, it’s the mask of Invulnerability, or the Joker, or Apathetic Cool Guy, or the Stoic Provider. Yet, rarely, do we take off our masks, all of them, and admit to what we truly feel; who we truly are… at our core.

Join Dr. John for a heartfelt talk with Ashanti Branch who is a TEDx speaker of the talk entitled, The Masks We All Wear. His work is featured in a documentary called "The Mask You Live In."

Mr. Branch, born and raised by a single mother on welfare in Oakland, California, took the road less traveled to get out of the ghetto and attended Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. Ashanti started in Civil Engineering but After tutoring struggling students he realized his true passion was teaching, and he changed careers. He found the “fire” that was missing in his life and he hoped to ignite a similar enthusiasm in his young students.

In 2004, Ashanti started The Ever Forward Club to provide a support group for African American and Latino males, who were not achieving to the level of their potential. Since then, the Ever Forward Club has helped 100% of its members graduate high school and 93% of them have gone on to attend college. Ashanti is on a mission to change the way that students interact with their education and the way schools interact with students.

And be sure to sign up for the Free Virtual Global Summit - Surviving To Thriving: Growing Through Adversity at www.SurvivingToThriving.site w/ Dr. John Schinnerer and Joree Rose, LMFT.

Check us out on Google Play and give us a Like and Subscribe!
https://play.google.com/music/listen#/ps/Imo4l6pgrbmeklxvec6pgwzxnz4

If you like what you've heard, support us by subscribing, leaving reviews on Apple podcasts.
