1:52Now PlayingHundreds of angry community members have gathered in Sunshine, Melbourne, protesting against Victoria's youth crime laws following the tragic death of local Good Samaritan Truong Van Viet.
The rally comes just one week after Mr Truong was killed while trying to stop a group of teenagers from allegedly stealing from a nearby shop. Protesters carried banners demanding "Stronger Laws, Safer Communities" and called for adult accountability for juvenile offenders.
Hung Truong, the nephew of the victim, delivered an emotional speech, slamming the state government and expressing outrage over manslaughter charges laid against a 15-year-old boy. He voiced deep frustration on behalf of his grieving family and the local community, demanding stronger legal penalties for youth violence.
A separate vigil was held across Hampshire Road, where Australian Vietnamese Council President Phong Nguyen joined locals in laying flowers and paying tribute to Mr Truong's heroic sacrifice.
