1:45Now PlayingA 50-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being brutally beaten and stabbed on Malvern Road in South Yarra, Melbourne. Shocking CCTV footage shows the injured victim staggering across the road, dodging traffic, and clutching his head before collapsing on the footpath outside a shop.
Bleeding heavily with severe head injuries, the man managed to flag down a passing Victoria Police patrol car. Officers administered immediate assistance before emergency services rushed him to The Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Detectives and forensic officers traced a trail of blood back to a nearby apartment complex, where the violent assault is believed to have taken place around midnight. Local residents expressed shock and fear over the brutal incident happening so close to their homes.
A 38-year-old woman known to the victim has been arrested and is currently being questioned by police as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the violent attack.
