A series of winter storms are set to impact Colorado's western mountains, bringing more than a foot of snow to many areas.
Snow showers will first push into the high country Monday, becoming heavier Monday night before ending Tuesday morning. Additional snow will arrive late Tuesday.
Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories have been issued for the mountains and Western Slope for Monday morning through Thursday morning. Most of Colorado's western mountains can expect 5 to 16 inches of snow. The highest totals will fall in the San Juans, where up to 3 feet of snow could fall this week.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said mountain travelers should be prepared for hazardous travel conditions at times throughout the week.
Roads across areas of western Colorado will be slick and patchy, blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Avalanche danger will also increase as the week progresses. Nine people have already died in avalanches across Colorado so far this winter season, including two more this past weekend.
