More than 1,500 beagles transferred to rescue organizations across US

Twenty-one beagles rescued from a Wisconsin breeding facility have found homes in northern Colorado after being brought to Fort Collins as part of a nationwide effort that relocated more than 1,500 dogs.

The dogs were taken in by the Fort Collins nonprofit "Until They're Home," after animal rights activists broke into a Wisconsin facility last month. After that, more than 1,500 beagles have been transferred to rescue organizations across the country.

"Fifteen hundred of them got released recently, and we got 21 of them," said Molly Obert, executive director of "Until They're Home.

The nonprofit recently hosted an adoption event to educate the public about Ridglan Farms, the Wisconsin breeder where the dogs came from. The facility has faced protests and allegations of animal mistreatment, which it has denied.

Among the dogs brought to Fort Collins is a beagle that prospective adopter Jessica Hazlett has nicknamed "Copper."

The dog had never been given a name before arriving in Colorado. Obert said many of the beagles are experiencing life as household pets for the first time.
