2:02Now PlayingMade famous by Borat, loved by many, feared by a few, the mankini has proved itself the outfit of choice for three ocean-bound adventurers.
The day you join the Dampier Mankini Kayak Club you're given a gift. Something to be proud of. Something to treasure. Something to share fearlessly with the world.
That's right, you're given a lime green mankini.
Current club members have been meeting once a month since May for sunset trips out of Dampier. They head out in the early evening light for trips around the beautiful bays and islands dotting this part of Australia.
They're a very welcoming bunch and anyone can join. It's open to newbies, novice paddlers, experienced ocean travelers and seasoned pros.
The only request made upon joining is that you, on at least one occasion, paddle out in your mankini. It's even OK to bend the rules and put your mankini on underneath your other clothes, as long as it's donned at least once.
One important note is that a mankini is never worn, it's donned. Live in the Pilbara? Why not don your own mankini and head on down for a paddle this month?
