as posted by the channelRachel Presser, 19, from Banora Point, NSW, has been a synchronised swimmer since she was nine years old. Her chances of making the Olympic squad for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is looking strong.
Rachel has a scholarship with the Queensland Academy of Sport and is the only NSW resident to make the national squad. Since 2016, Rachel has represented Australia four times at world championships and has won several individual, duet and team gold medals at the Nationals and Oceania meets.
Prior to competition Rachel trains eight hours a day six days a week. One of her goals is to change the perception of synchronised swimmers and for people to see them recognised as elite athletes.
The International Body for Aquatic Sports (FINA) has officially changed the name of synchronised swimming to artistic swimming in 2017. The name change is designed to help increase the popularity of the sport and to bring it in line with similar events such as gymnastics. Rachel feels this is a positive change for her sport but still finds it hard to refer to its new title.
