5:28Now PlayingDaniela Testa and Ales Pokora left Sydney a year ago, escaping the rat race and seeking a new life exploring Australia. Ales, from the Czech Republic, has been in Australia for 11 years, while Italian Daniela has clocked up 8 years. Their graphic design, photography and marketing careers were easily compatible with working from home – so they decided to make that a mobile home.
They bought a delivery van and over nine months converted it into an eco-friendly home. Teaching themselves through Youtube videos, they used natural products and avoided toxins and treatments that would be detrimental to them and the environment. They spent months searching for sheep wool to be used as an alternative to traditional insulation for the van walls.
When they set off on their journey it was December, 2019. They spent the first months keeping ahead of bushfires that raged across New South Wales and Victoria. They also filmed the aftermath of the Kangaroo Island fires in South Australia before COVID crippled the world. They parked their van and spent five months on Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, where there was little evidence of the impact of the pandemic. They gave up on the Western Australian border opening and a year later are travelling around Queensland.
