From tales of unrequited love, to fish weighing down boats, and a contortionist named Tarzan, Kevin Staker has seen some things in his 60 years living on the Darling River at Menindee in far west New South Wales.
“I still get the same pleasure today as I did when I first got on the first boat and went in the river, I absolutely just love it.
“I love the water, love the boat, love the river. It's part of me.”
Menindee has faced many challenges in recent years, with shrinking water supplies, mass fish kills and dwindling bird numbers.
Mr Staker says no matter what the future brings he’ll never leave the beloved river.
“I was born here, I’ll die here.”
