Rachael Zaltron OAM founded Backpacks 4 SA Kids from her carport.

The organisation now provides backpacks with age-appropriate supplies for children who are taken into care, experiencing homelessness, or need to quickly leave their homes due to family violence.

Since 2012, Rachael and her team have helped more than 86,000 South Australian children.

Rachel Zaltron receives the 2024 SA Local Hero award.
