"Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and guardians, they come from the American people," Gen. Mark Milley said. "What is wrong with having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend?"
Critical race theory examines the impact of systemic racism on American society, but some Republican lawmakers claim it teaches children "to hate our country." At least five states have banned the teaching of critical race theory in public schools and similar legislation has been proposed in over 15 states.
