Karen Bass, D-Calif., grilled former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, Sep. 17, 2019 about why he seemingly avoided a paper trail when trying to deliver a message from President Donald Trump to Attorney General Jeff Sessions by asking to meet Sessions outside of his office. Trump told Lewandowski he wanted the investigation into his campaign to be limited, but the message was never delivered. “If you didn’t think you were doing anything wrong, then why would it matter that there was a public log?” Bass asked. Lewandowski said he wanted to have a private conversation in a relaxed atmosphere rather than in a government office. Bass said Sessions’s decision to cancel the meeting with Lewandowski suggests that the attorney general knew the message Lewandowski was trying to deliver was improper.
