Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, Army officer who works for the National Security Council, testified before the House Intelligence Committee that Kurt Volker, the former U.S. special envoy for Ukraine, and Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, were advocating in the best interests of the United States. “You think they were doing the best they could and were trying to advocate in the best interest of the United States,” Republican counsel Steve Castor asked Vindman. “That is what I believed and that what I still believe frankly,” Vindman said. He added that the men tried to bring Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, “into the tent” to align his efforts with U.S. interests. Vindman testified in the impeachment inquiry on Nov. 19.
