Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, an Army officer who works for the National Security Council, said President Donald Trump’s request that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky investigate 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, was in exchange for a White House visit that would boost Zelensky’s legitimacy as a political leader. “President Trump demanded a favor of Zelensky to conduct investigations that both of you acknowledge were for President Trump’s political interests not the national interests and in return for his promise of a much desired White House meeting for President Zelensky,” Democratic counsel Daniel Goldman said during his questioning of Vindman and Jennifer Williams, an aide to Vice President Mike Pence. When asked whether that was an accurate summary of the excerpts from Trump’s call with Zelensky, Vindman replied, “Yes.” Vindman and Williams testified Nov. 19 as part of the impeachment inquiry into Trump.
