In response to a series of questions from Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., Democratic counsel Daniel Goldman said “President Trump is the central player in this scheme” involving Ukraine and an alleged effort to pressure the nation to investigate Trump’s political rivals. Swalwell said the clarity of Trump’s role is the reason no one has asked the infamous question that was featured in the Nixon impeachment probe: “What did the president know, and when did he know it?” The exchange came during a Dec. 9 House Judiciary Committee hearing. The impeachment probe has revolved around a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
