President Donald Trump’s actions toward Ukraine has put Ukraine in a “weakened position” to negotiate with Russia, Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., said during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Dec. 9. Democrats argue that Trump withheld a White House meeting and U.S. military aid from Ukraine in an attempt to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into announcing an investigation into Trump’s political rivals. The Judiciary Committee hearing, which is part of the impeachment probe into Trump, was held the same day Zelensky was meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “If our military assistance had been provided as Congress ordered it and the White House meeting, President Zelensky would be meeting with Putin from a position of strength,” Bass said during her questioning of Democratic counsel Daniel Goldman.
