Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, opened the markup of the articles of impeachment on Dec. 11, making the case against the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Collins characterized that the impeachment process, spearheaded by his Democratic colleagues, is based on “lies.” “The lies that the sham impeachment is OK because the threat is so real,” he said. The markup comes after public impeachment hearings by both the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. “The real legacy of this impeachment hearing will not be the removal of Donald Trump as president. In fact, if anything, they see the majority for what they are—on a three year vendetta to get someone that they couldn’t beat, and they are desperate to do it before he beats them again next year,” Collins said.
