Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, criticized President Donald Trump's obstruction amid the impeachment inquiry. She said that the president is arguing that there is no direct evidence, "while blocking all of us from getting that direct evidence." It was a "remarkable position" to take, she said. Garcia further said Trump's defense team "cherry-picked" their evidence. "We are not the ones hiding the facts. The House managers did not hide that evidence. President Trump hid the evidence." Garcia urged senators to not allow Trump to "silent [sic] these witnesses and hide these documents."
After days of arguments posed by the House managers and Trump’s legal team, followed by questions posed by senators, the lawmakers debate and vote on whether they wish to subpoena new witnesses and documents on Friday, Jan. 31. Then the Senate must decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
