Leading House manager Rep. Adam Schiff on Monday said that the House had provided “overwhelming evidence” that President Donald Trump had abused his power and obstructed justice, and painted a dark picture of the country if he is not removed from office. “You can’t trust this president to do the right thing,” Schiff argued in his closing statements during the Senate impeachment trial, “he will not change, and you know it.” He also tried to appeal to the senators, saying that the president's "daily attacks" on democracy "have made us numb and blind" to the consequences, but that truth and what is right still matters to them.
House managers and the president’s legal team are each delivering their closing arguments in the impeachment trial on Feb. 3 before senators began to weigh in with debate on whether to remove Trump from office. In December, the House of Representatives charged him with two articles of impeachment -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. After the Senate on Friday voted to bar new witness testimony and subpoenas for documents, Trump’s acquittal has seemed all but assured.
