10:15Now PlayingSenate Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. gave opening remarks Oct. 12 as the confirmation hearing for Judge Amy Coney Barrett kicked off. He praised Barrett’s qualifications and defended Republicans’ decision to hold hearings for a nominee to the high court just three weeks before presidential and Senate elections that could shift power in both branches to Democrats. He also lamented the fact that the Supreme Court nomination process has become so partisan, noting that the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- a liberal icon -- was confirmed 96-3 by a bipartisan majority in 1993.
